Mutually Coupled Ring Oscillators for Large Array Time-of-Flight Imagers

چکیده
Time-of-flight (TOF) image sensors require high levels of accuracy and precision on time quantization, typically through a Time-to-Digital Converters (TDCs). Achieving such performance, while keeping power consumption low, is not trivial, even more for large arrays. Although offsets (from asymmetry, overall speed variation, IR-drop induced variations, etc.) can be calibrated and corrected, varying offsets are harder to compensate for. In this paper, we present a simple and robust method for synchronization that drastically reduces process-voltagetemperature (PVT) variations, while providing noise filtering to reduce accumulated jitter. An 8 x 8 array of ring oscillators (RO), serving as many TDCs, is implemented. About 18 dB better phase noise and 14 dB better jitter is obtained, under 200 μW/GHz power efficiency and better than 100 ps resolution. The Transient Behavior of LC and Ring Oscillators under External Frequency Injection
In this work, time domain analysis is used to solve Adler’s equation in order to obtain the required time, for an oscillator under external injection, reaching the steady-state condition. Mathematical approach has been applied to fully describe the transient of frequency acquisition in injection-locked LC and Ring oscillators considering their time-varying nature. Then, the analysis is verifie...

This paper treats synchronization dynamics in a shift-invariant ring of N mutually coupled self-sustained electrical units. Via some qualitative theory for the Lyapunov exponents, we derive the regimes of coupling parameters for which synchronized oscillation is stable or unstable in the ring.

متن کاملIsochronal synchrony and bidirectional communication with delay-coupled nonlinear oscillators.
We propose a basic mechanism for isochronal synchrony and communication with mutually delay-coupled chaotic systems. We show that two Ikeda ring oscillators, mutually coupled with a propagation delay, synchronize isochronally when both are symmetrically driven by a third Ikeda oscillator. This synchronous operation, unstable in the two delay-coupled oscillators alone, facilitates simultaneous, ...
